Moses Makumbi, a former Kato Kajubi witchdoctor, and Dennis Kabuye, his helper, were sentenced to life in jail by the Masaka High Court for their roles in the sacrificial slaying of a minor. 

Judge Victoria Nakintu Katamba's ruling, delivered on October 23, 2017, marked the end of a trial that exposed the horrible specifics of the crime against Passy Mirembe in Kayugi village, Nyendo Mukungwe Division. On the other hand, Makumbi's defence attorney, Alexander Lule Nkima, put up a strong fight, highlighting his client's senior age and heavy family duties. 

Lule emphasised Makumbi's responsibility as a provider for his four wives and seventy-one children in her plea for the court to consider a lower punishment. 

"Makumbi needs to take care of other people; he should be given a lighter sentence," Lule said. 

Judge Nakintu called the deceased's parents to make their case in response to the defense's claims.
