According to authorities, a major-ranking UPDF soldier was attempting to pass a convoy in the Mabira Forest when his vehicle collided head-on with an approaching trailer. The soldier perished instantly. 

SP Hellen Butoto, the spokesman for the Ssezibwa police district, reports that the deadly accident occurred on Friday at around 1pm in Sanga-Mabira, close to the newly established picnic area along the Kampala-Jinja route.

 Butoto stated, "It is alleged that a Howo Trailer registration number UBP, which was coming from Jinja side, collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 registration number UBQ 424N, driven by Maj Habib Nsamba Katakabire from Kampala to Jinja side, overtaking vehicles in the process."

According to him, a police officer from Bweyogerere police was driving a Toyota Premio with license plate UBP 411L when the Toyota Land Cruiser overturned and hit another car. 

According to the police, Maj. Nsamba passed away instantly, while Muhammad Kasozi, the trailer's driver, was hurt and is presently receiving treatment at Kawolo Hospital. 

Butoto further said that the three cars were brought to the Mabira Police Station yard for examination, and the deceased's body was transferred to the morgue at Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem.
